THE FILM SHED Wedding
Alexandra & adam’s WEDDING party at mc motors
MC Motors also known as The Film Shed, is located in trendy Dalston and is a warehouse mostly used for filming and commercial shoots, but can also be hired for events.
It’s located just off Stoke Newington Road off the most east end street you’ll ever visit, in a very unassuming part of town. The Film Shed is a huge industrial space. Rihanna filmed one of her videos there, Vogue have done cover shoots, BBC drama’s and films have all been shot there. It has kudos and once you step inside you understand why. With it’s industrial shabby chic aesthetic and lots of eclectic connected spaces, it lends itself well to weddings and celebrations too.

The Film Shed – Photos First
I met Alexandra and Adam at one of Alexandra’s closest friend’s wedding that I’d photographed a few years before, so I was delighted when they got in touch to book me too. I don’t know what it is about east London weddings I like so much, but the east end still feels like genuine, authentic London to me and I’ve shot in some strangely beautiful and stylish venues there. This was one of them. The Film Shed – MC Motors is a huge industrial warehouse set of buildings with a cinema-style front and pub entrance. My lovely couple got married the day before, but wanted that to be as low key as possible, so I was there to cover dinner and the party. We decided that we’d do their family photos before guests arrived, and some fabulous portraits of them too.
Drinks Party and a Mariachi Band
Guests started arriving and filtering through to the main bar to a champagne reception with canapés. There were so many stylish colourful outfits and gorgeous people there, it was a smorgasbord of a feast for my camera. I love a tightly packed drinks party where you can hardly move and the volume goes up as everyone gets into the vibe. Adam’s family had flown in from Hong Kong, and a huge number of guests had flown in too just for the party. The fabulous Mariachi band were a great surprise as guests visibly got bouncier when they burst through the doors from the adjoining room. I bloody LOVE a Mariachi band. I wish this was a thing at more weddings! And then Alexandra & Adam made their grand entrance to a lot of whoops and cheers!

MY HIGHLIGHTS
Here’s a selection of my favourite images from Alexandra & Adam’s wedding party at The Film Shed
Dinner featuring a Giant Tiramisu and Yam Seng Toasts
Everyone sat down for dinner mid afternoon, it was a gorgeous sharing menu. All the guests had been given a scratch card, though I’m not sure how many winners there were. I love it when venues set up long trestle tables, they’re far more sociable and make a huge difference to the photography. After a hearty meal, and Alexandra’s gorgeous and funny speech, there was a Tiramisu moment, not quite a cake cutting but it soon found its way onto tables for dessert. More speeches and fabulous toasting this lovely couple. And then a traditional Chinese Yam Seng toast, which was lead by Uncle Cheung. Each table is toasted, but as they were so long, Uncle Cheung and the couple toasted each end of the table, so four times. Raising a glass, always a shot, after calling Yam Seng three times increasingly louder, they called and the guests answered with such commitment to it all! Three time for longevity & health, wealth & prosperity and love & happiness. I absolutely love the different cultural traditions I get to see at weddings don’t you.
Cocktails and Party
The guests were in great form and after dinner, there was cocktail hour, an increasingly popular slot in a lot of wedding days these days. It’s great if you’re having a room turnaround at your wedding so the party can go on. Then came the party. Alexandra & Adam had planned the best day for themselves, a day to mingle and boogie with their friends, a day to just celebrate where they were in their lives as a couple. It was fabulous and they didn’t stop laughing all day. Weddings like this don’t feel like work at all, and I love how the creative vibe goes up a notch or two because everyone’s totally in it, there in mind body and soul! And just look at this space as a backdrop for a wedding. Quirky, cool, full of random props and uber shabby chic, what’s not to love!
Final Thoughts
Weddings are all different and it really isn’t one size fits all. Mostly I’m booked to cover the ceremony as well as the celebrations, but whatever coverage you book, it has to fit you. If you connect with my style of creative, colourful photography, and a more incognito approach, do get in touch I’d love to hear from you. Let me know a bit about your wedding plans, what’s important to you, and we can get the ball rolling. Here’s my contact page.
