Nick and Catherine’s lovely wedding at the Artisan of Clerkenwell took me back to the city. I love shooting London weddings big or small, and when Nick got in touch with me before Christmas asking me to shoot his and Catherine’s wedding in London I was really looking forward to shooting at a new venue, the Artisan of Clerkenwell just off St John’s Square as well as visiting a few old favourites; Islington Town Hall and St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. I’ve shot quite a few weddings at Islington Town Hall before but not in the main round council chamber so that was another first.
Bridal Preparations at home surrounded by family (and a very cute dog!)
My morning started with preparations at home with Catherine in Finsbury Park where she greeted me with a huge hug and made me feel right at home from the start. Some of her family were with her including her cheeky little sister, big sister and boyfriend and their dad. Oh and not forgetting Henry, Catherine’s gorgeous cocker spaniel who was dashing around madly with excitement. The morning was pretty calm until Catherine realised she was about 20 mins away from the ceremony and was still getting ready, so everyone got moving and out. With taxis ordered and waiting downstairs, Catherine bid farewell to Henry and off everyone ran….
Wedding Ceremony at Islington Town Hall
The council chamber at Islington town hall was pretty full with guests and Nick was waiting very calmly and patiently with his best man Jon. A nervous Catherine made her entrance with her dad but any nerves melted away once she was with Nick. Then the ceremony and tearful readings from both mums and it wasn’t long before they were married! Then the traditional confetti walk down the steps outside the town hall and family photos before guests were whisked off for a short tour around some of London’s landmarks en-route to Farringdon where the reception was being held.
Whistle stop tour of London
Nick, Catherine and their families were from the north so it gave them a chance to catch up and for us to do some couples shots at a few venues starting with the town hall after which we headed off by taxi to the stunning St Pancras Renaissance hotel to take some shots on the grand staircase which we’d pre-arranged. Then finally, onwards to Clerkenwell and we arrived at the Artisan just as their guests were getting off the traditional route master bus.
Wedding Reception at the Artisan of Clerkenwell
Drinks at the Artisan and then the call to dinner where guests were seated both upstairs and downstairs in this cool quirky little venue. Once the very funny speeches from Catherine’s Dad, Nick and Jon were over, dinner was served with huge plates of very tasty food and copious amounts of wine, guests tucked in and it was a superb night. More mingling and the cutting of the cake, before dancing the night away. Northerners down south bring such a brilliant sense of humour and easiness with them, this was a lovely wedding to start the season off with. Nick and Catherine – big congrats again to you both! If you’re looking for an Artisan of Clerkenwell / Islington Town Hall / St Pancras Renaissance wedding photographer please do contact me to see if I’m available for your wedding – I’d love to be considered.
