CLARE & STEVEN’S AUTUMN WEDDING AT SOUTHEND BARNS
Southend Barns is a barn wedding venue located just outside of Chichester, in the beautiful Sussex countryside. It has some lovely flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for weddings. Barns always come into their own for relaxed summer & autumn weddings.
More than half of my weddings each year, come from personal or client recommendations and Clare & Steven found me via friends. They had their gorgeous autumn wedding at Southend barns for around 100 guests – I do love the informal feel and relaxed flow of a barn wedding.

Autumn Sunshine, Elegant Bride, Marble Cake & Luxury Boho Grass Decor
I met Clare & Steven via my wonderful doggy daycare Aunty Sal, who is second mum to my gorgeous wirehaired dachshund Otto – they knew instantly they were after a relaxed photography style like mine and I do love a barn wedding, so it was win-win! Clare & Steven met when they were 10-years old and were together until they left high school. Years later they were matched online and it didn’t take long for them to catch the love bug. Their wedding was going to be a relaxed autumn affair at Southend Barns, and they had very elegant boho grass decor and the most incredible rose-topped marble cake. With five bridesmaids and Clare, there were lots of elegantly sparkling dresses hanging up in the dedicated prep room. I love the excited getting ready chatter as everyone’s getting themselves wedding ready. It’s a lovely way for me to meet the most important characters of the day too.
Dairy Barn Wedding Ceremony – Clare & Steven tie the knot!
Steven and his family arrived, and guests started filtering through to the dairy barn, whilst Clare and friends were toasting the day with fizz. Steven was greeting family and friends and there were lots of kids running around, kicking blow up pigs and getting high on sugar! A must on most wedding days! The bright, light filled barn was packed with guests and a familiar face, Amanda the Registrar (whose daughter’s weddings I’ve also photographed!!) It was a tear filled ceremony, with Steven’s son doing a grand job as ring bearer. And a friend sang beautifully as they signed the register. After a sunny start, it rained during the ceremony but as often happens, stopped just as we were all heading outside for the confetti throw.

MY HIGHLIGHTS
Here’s a selection of my favourite images from Clare & Steven’s wedding at Southend Barns
Confetti Throw. Fizz in the Sunshine. Couples Photos. Dinner in the Threshing Barn
The kiddies handed out the confetti. just in time as the sun reappeared. Guests enjoyed fizz and canapés outside after the confetti run, whilst I got a few family photos done. If you’ve been following my work, you’ll know I’m a sucker for a symmetrical shot so I couldn’t help myself with the gorgeous ones of Clare & Steven near the water feature. A lot of couples tell me the bit they dread the most is having their photo taken. Most worry about feeling awkward, freezing up or getting embarrassed whilst they’re trying to get romantic and snoggy.. So let me bust some myths here – I always take couple photos with just my couples. No bridesmaid tagging along, or uncle Bob shooting over my shoulder. This is your time alone, to just breath and enjoy 10 mins or so away from everyone so we can get some lovely photos of just the two of you. Ideally we’ll spend 10-15 mins together, and we’ll walk and talk as we’re taking some photos in such a relaxed way you’ll honestly forget about any nerves so quickly. I won’t tell you where to put your hand or how to smile, but will just encourage you both to connect, be yourselves and get close. Bring your fizz and relax. Easy! Once the photos were all done, everyone sat down for dinner and Clare & Steven made their grand entrance. There were some cracking speeches, Clare was in tears a few times, and Steven’s best man had the crowd in his hands! After dinner was cocktail hour, and then a quick cake cutting before the dancing started. Time for everyone to get their groove on. You’ll always find me in the middle of the dance floor, trying to get some shots as the band gets going. I really love this end bit of the day. And I might even stay for a glass of vino!
