Northease Manor Wedding Photography

Laura & James had searched high and low for the right venue to host their wedding celebrations and they chose Northease Manor, which is a school most of the time. It has a fabulous big old manor house and lots of outdoor space for the kids. The next most important thing was finding relaxed, unposed documentary style photography and I was delighted when they booked me! Their day started with preparations in Brighton, Laura and her gals were in an AirBnB and James was with his groomsmen in their flat. They were both pretty close together, so luckily I was able to cover both preps before heading off to St Peter’s in Brighton for their ceremony.

St Peter’s is their local church and I’ve shot many a wedding there over the years – this year it was scaffolded up and under reconstruction work to the bell tower and you’ll see the posters that feature in some of my shots. James and his groomsmen welcomed guests into the church where there were lots of big rubber balls to keep the kids occupied during the ceremony. Laura arrived in the car park and had an impromptu prayer with her bridesmaids and you’ll see the familiar face of Bear Grylls the adventurer smiling down from above!  They slowly made their way into church, fashionably late, but Reverend Archie is used to that! There were lots of uplifting happy songs, music, laugher and a few tears too – standard – and then they were married! Everyone headed to the back of the church to nosh lots of cakes at the wedding tea party and once well fed and watered, and after an epic cake cutting moment, everyone headed outside to see the happy couple off with some confetti and away they went.

The beauty of unposed, relaxed and candid wedding photography is that I get to focus on what’s important at a wedding – all those lovely moments unfolding right there in front of me. I don’t work to a shot list as that would stop me from connecting to the things happening right in front of me; those gorgeous, surprising, funny, unscripted moments that can’t be predicted, but need to be observed. My clients book me to capture those moments and trust me to get on with it without having to direct them or intervene in any way. I don’t boss people around or control things either. Northease Manor wedding reception

It was a beautiful autumn day at the manor house – the apples were falling in the orchard, the flowers were still in bloom and the sun was still warm enough to be outside. Guests arrived to Pimms and champagne whilst the kids headed for the bouncy castle. Meanwhile, I headed off with Laura & James into the gorgeous grounds to take some relaxed photos together. They didn’t need to do anything but be themselves, truly madly and happily in love !! Check out those gorgeous shots in the orchard. Then back to dinner where kids were running around with cameras proving quite the competition for me 🙂 After dinner everyone headed outside again for expresso martini’s and ice-cream, followed by so many funny speeches and lots of tears! This fab crowd kept going till dusk, playing games and slightly drunk bouncing on the castle before heading back inside for the party! Loved spending the day with this fun crowd and I’m hoping that the images below give you a flavour of the fun that was had that day. Mucho mucho love to you both Laura & James xxx
